WOW modern games have made me soft as hell. I'm playing this lately and I can't believe I breezed through it as a kid, shit is actually pretty tough. And it was considered an easy game back then. I keep on getting lost without a map and the game is extremely punishing, almost to a troll-like degree. Like in cool cool mountain in the red coin stage they hide the star, which you have already made appear by collecting the red coins which was a pain in the ass, behind an insta-death long jump.

If you don't count dreamcast it definitely had the best graphics of 5th gen and like op said it set a lot of industry standards. Look at all of the 3d games before and after this

it's very based, but honestly i can see why some people like it less than the mainline games. it's slower paced, so instead of just runnin through the levels like ya usually do in mario, ya search around and collect stuff. different type of appeal ig, though the marios started doin that when 64 hit so ehhh whatever. also the mario cry is horrid.

yi has way better graphics than dkc though. well at least the characters/enemies, the backgrounds are about even but the spritework is sublime. sure it was different at the time ye but times change ya know.

I hated Mario 64 long before I ever played it. The box art is plain disgusting. The worst of the worst, in fact. It was so creepy my 18-year-old self was immediately repulsed by it - forever dooming my opinion of this game to negativity.
Can anyone relate?
