It seems that for some reason Nintendo hates Yoshi's Island but love Yoshi Story.

Almost every reference they made to Yoshi outside Mario games is related to Yoshi Story, so Yoshi's character design was changed to match Yoshi Story design and we have two Yoshi Story stages and a ton of Yoshi Story music tracks in Smash Bros. series, YS courses in Mario Golf, Yoshi Story elements in Mario Tennis and Nintendo Land and every Yoshi games tries to be kiddier than YS.

Yoshi's Island is just like Donkey Kong Country or the Wario series. Loved by the gamers, hated by Nintendo.
