Save scumming as I know it is usually used in roguelikes and it's often not intended to be part of the game. I don't see much of a distinction between using save states to cheat and using cheat menus to cheat, but if you do that's cool.

Using save states is most definitely not something that "plays the game for you" though, that's nuts.

You prefer something completely unrelated? Okay I guess.

In game cheats can be pretty rad though

Checkpoints don't really make it easier, just shorter if you mess up. Anyone who wants to play Ecco but doesn't want to deal with it's difficulty for whatever reason should just use the debug menu for unlimited life and teleporting past obstacles you're stuck on.

Turn Ecco so he's facing the screen and pause. Then press Right, B, C, B, C, Down, C, and Up.

Lets you fuck with the music tempo for added fun.

There's a solution that you might like. Ecco has a robust debug menu that lets you make him invulnerable as well as teleport inside of a level.

You can also alter the music's tempo which is pretty fun.

To do it, make him turn and pause while he's facing the screen. Then press Right, B, C, B, C, Down, C, Up

It works in every port of the game except the Sega CD version. It will let you swim around and explore the levels and story without the tension of the game if that's what you want.

Typical /vr/ bickering back and forth trying to sound important when neither of you knows what you're talking about.

Don't bother with the Super Dolphin mode they put into the 3DS version. It makes it so you always have the invincibility glyph power so there will be glowing sparks flying around you the entire time. Also you can't turn it on or off at all.

Instead, use the robust debug menu that's in all versions of the game. Pause while Ecco is facing the screen and enter Right, B, C, B, C, Down, C, Up. It lets you activate and deactivate invincibility without the swirling stars around you. Also lets you level select, warp to any point in a level.

You can even listen to the music and adjust the tempo as you please if you want to play through the whole game with vaporwave in the background.
