I really, REALLY wish they did. I cannot stand the DS version, and I think a sprite based remake would do the game justice. FFIII is, if you'll excuse the slightly overused term, criminally overlooked compared to the later games in the series.

Dissidia comes close. I actually think Nomura's art is its best when he's doing art for the Dissidia games.
