I think Breath of Fire 2 is great. The pacing is really nice, you can play the game one quest at a time (1-2 hours) so it feels a bit like watching a Shounen anime. You might want to check out the retranslation patch and maybe zenny & xp patch but the game doesn't really require grinding - the encounter rate is just a bit too much at times.

they absolutely could by just having the entire team travel together and allowing you to swap them into the active party at any time. No more getting cucked by field obstacles and having to backtrack to swap out party members.

But would they? Doing so means that the homebase has no reason to exist, I doubt they'd make such a drastic change.
