Underrated game. As a Sonic CD fan I don't see why people are so hard on it. Seems more like misdirected hatred towards the 32X itself (which is also kind of dumb imo)

>Maybe they should've tried to release it in, say, 1992 or 1993, might have been better received
Well '92 was SEGA CD, '93 was 3DO...

I tend to agree with this in regards to SEGA discussions in general. We can't rewrite history but we can certainly enjoy the games that came out of it. For a system with only forty games total, the amount of games actually worth playing is still about the same as N64 and Saturn imo. None of them were perfect but they all had a handful of solid titles

They could've probably sold it with Sonic & Knuckles as a pack-in title or something preparing the way for Chaotix and more. The challenge would've been the same, having two 32-bit systems on the market, though a dedicated Genesis-style machine with backwards compatibility would've been neat to see, especially for Sonic/Genesis fans. A proper CD/32X combo machine likely would've ended up like the 3DO, but it would've been cooler to see something like this coming from SEGA themselves, with a few fun surprises like Astropede and Treasure Tails.

It's not really more confusing than the GBA SP releasing a year before the DS or the iPhone 5c releasing the same time as the 5s. Neptune was just an upgrade to the Genesis, Saturn was the next main console.

Now you know the truth, OP. The add-ons (particularly SEGA CD) were the good ones. Saturn was where they missed the mark.

Not as weird as Tempo or Kolibri imo, to say nothing of oddities like Virtua Hamster. If you're curious though 32X does have some other solid titles, like Virtua Racing Deluxe, After Burner, Shadow Squadron, Darxide etc. Just never got as many games as SEGA CD

If you like Sonic check out Knuckles Chaotix for 32X. It's a somewhat divisive game similar to CD but never got ported to anything. If you like that game (or if you don't), then check out Virtua Racing Deluxe as well.

How about 32X OP? You get Chaotix, Tempo, Virtua Racing Deluxe, arcade perfect After Burner, Space Harrier, and a few solid 3D games. Other options are Model 2 which got Sonic the Fighters, System 32 which got SEGASonic the Hedgehog, and System C2 which got SEGASonic Bros.

There's also Windows 95 which got Sonic CD, Sonic 3&K, Sonic 3D Blast, and Sonic R, most of which were better than the console versions maybe barring 3D Blast. Honestly having a good computer back in the day was probably a bit better than having a Saturn, yeah you missed out on NiGHTS but you could still play Daytona, SEGA Rally, Virtua Fighter 2, and plenty of other games.

Play the games. The best answer for any question like this is to just open up any emulator of choice and just play them, and that will answer your question. Same for SEGA CD, 3DO, Saturn, etc.
