Imagine if we would've gotten 2D FF7.
FF would never have gotten as big as it did and the games might still be soulful.

I always thought Kirby's Dream Land 3 was the next closest thing on SNES, and it's even more coheseive without the random computer-generated intro. Really, say what you will about that game being too slow-paced or whatever, but it just doesn't get enough credit for the art direction. I always thought it was the perfect look for the series. Such a shame that it the closest thing to a follow-up was the little-known cell-shaded iteration of the canceled GameCube game.

>If Final Fantasy 7 had come out originally as a high-spec 2D sprite-based game with awesome special effects for battles/etc, it would be even more beloved today.
Funny thing is, this almost happened. FFVII was initially planned for SNES, and was reportedly set to be the biggest cartridge size. Some ideas from that and the SNES-CD version of Secret of Mana ended up in Chrono Trigger instead. Switching to PlayStation probably made sense at the time, but it's hard to say if it was for the best in the long run.

Final Fantasy 7 began life on the SNES. No doubt that if this add-on was on the market, this game would release for it.

Can I just say that I love the fact that one of the Super Famicom's few instances of in-depth, non-Satellaview voice acting involves Robert Belgrade getting his wake-up coffee in the first minute of Star Ocean?

This right here is why I don't play the rereleases, even if >>8113370 might technically be true; Namco's disrepect towards the writer/programmer means that the Super Famicom version will remain closest to the unreleased novel as it's going to get, since every change afterwards deviates from the original vision.

Fun fact: Final Fantasy VII was apparently going to be Square's answer to them and have an even bigger cartridge size (8MB over 6MB) before development shifted to PlayStation.

Probably not.
On the other hand, FFVII on SNES probably would have been amazing, or at least aged better than 90's polygons.
>SGI graphics
>64 Megabits (8 MB)
>Concepts reused for Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy VIII.
My dream would be for FFIV NES & FFVII SNES to be leaked (even if the latter probably had minimal work).

What is the game that should have been released in the retro-days but never was? Not only canceled games or postponed ones, but that game that you wish was made.

There was never a sequel to 6 planned. Do you mean the one image of that scrapped SNES Final Fantasy? If pic related is what you mean then they only used the characters of 6 simply for placeholders that doesn't mean they were going to use them. You're making shit up sorry.

>equating popularity to quality
>using ff7 as the only example because there are no others
>not realizing ff7 started development in the 16-bit era before jrpg's had peaked
