What are you talking about? He isn't even anywhere near the top 10, probably not even the top 50.

Sure there are a few, but that you had to go to Tobal 2 for an example kinda makes my point.

What am I supposed to be coping with? I'm just laying out the way the games are made and what the fans of them tend to focus on.

>Doesn't matter, you can practice to out play the AI and get a 1cc. It's still a challenge for new players.

This is generally true, it is decent as a training mode but since single and multiplayer are so different it's not great beyond basic training. Personally I don't care if someone only ever wants to play in singleplayer mode, it's their game. But most who play fighters aren't and too much AI training builds bad habits and I've seen many people new to multiplayer get annoyed when they keep losing because they play like they're fighting a computer. Even if they've been doing something very challenging like 1ccing '98 with the sports team and never getting down to Brian or HeavyD

Anyways as said, they're games. They exist for us to have fun with and if however someone plays it is fun for them that's all that matters. But as for the question of the thread relates to outside perceptions. Go into a shmup board and they'll be talking about scoring, and loops on 1 credit. Because that's what the most people into shmups are into. Go to a fighting board and they're all talking about matchups, frame data, combos etc. Overwhelmingly none of them talk or care about single player mode and completing challenges in it. That's not me trolling or coping, that's just answering the question legitimately.

yup

SNK bosses are always crazy cheap because it's supposed to be a brutal fight for you even 3 on 1.

KoF is generally a lot more bullshitty than SF2 so that's fair. I never found sp SFII much fun, but I find all these games boring against the computer.

It's cheesy and lame yes, but far from omnipotent.

Anyways, if you or whoever enjoys playing it knock yourself out. But for my tastes it's a waste of time. MK2 was the first game where I really saw through the AI curtain to all the stupid shit it had to do to try and win and I've found fighting the computer boring ever since. So I only do it now if it's required to unlock shit.

To each their own though. The world would be boring if we all liked exactly the same thing.

This. The reason fighting game AI sucks is that none of it can come close to competing with a real player. So to make any of it challenging at you have to either make it cheat like crazy or make unbalanced boss characters.

Pure random would be so boring to fight it would be pointless.

SF has always had shit tier music.

Somehow it's not surprising that a /vr/ fighting fan is nostalgic for blatant boring stereotypes though.

You may laugh but one of the absolute best fighting game players I ever met preferred keyboard over everything and he was incredible.

No AI is actually good in fighting games. But it has slowly gotten better over time. That's why SF II feels even worse than the last Arcsys game you played.

Either way, don't waste your time with single player mode unless you're just goofing around.

Any version other than arcade where it has a difficulty setting. Even on hard MK2 isn't difficult the way say KoF single player is, but on easy it's a laugh.

It's honestly hard to tell if you're pretending to be dumb or not, but KoF is really a team game. The bosses are designed so they're so powerful that even when it's 3 on 1 he still has a marked advantage.

Yeah, I hear you. With Soul Calibur and MK the AI is cheesy, but not really trying to hard. Some games though go for a single player mode that tries to be as difficult to beat as possible.

I don't see the point because when you're fighting an opponent that can literally react to your moves before the animation even starts, the only way to beat them is to exploit whatever weakness the AI does have and cheese that for the win. Even though it's hard to do, it throws almost all the strategy and mind games that are the basis of what makes it fun for most people.

I'm a bit biased though because I hate fighting AI even more than most.
