playing donkey kong 64

I really like the look of this game and I want to play it, but it gets a tonne of criticism online

What can you tell me about it, /vr/ ?

Donkey Kong 64.
Only I knew what to do, I just couldn't. I got stuck on the original Donkey Kong section - I just could never beat it as a kid.
Pick it up fairly recently and beat it easily on my first time.
But that boss fight took me a many try...

A few of my friends always look at me like I'm a retard that I didn't like it. Made it through a few levels until I got sick of it.

Just cleared the first world for Diddy and DK... Are there really people who say this is better than Banjo and other Rareware N64 games? It just felt really monotonous. It was a bit fun, for sure, but some stuff was just "okay beat that guy with diddy. okay now do it with donkey". Its not so bad that I want to drop the game, like I said it's pretty fun, but I can already tell how overrated this game is just after the first stage.

1995, i had a playstation growing up into pc, but i also got a N64 which had DK64, Bust-A-Move Arcade Eedition 2, Glover, diddy kong racing and 3 other games i dont remember the title on, i really liked the N64 as a kid (still do) but i felt like i REALLY missed out on these old games, i always loved nes games and we also had that when i was like 3 (super mario and a bootleg game), but it disappeared and found it couple of weeks ago

You play as a bunch of apes and monkeys who rap, shoot guns, and eat watermelon to regain their health.

Anyone know where/how to find a good, working ROM for Donkey Kong 64?
I've looked everywhere and they won't work properly.
The textures often stretch for a frame and the maps aren't always "whole."
I think it is a plugin error, but I can't seem to get it to work.
