nta but fwiw i was finally able to connect and play using xash3d-fwgs x86 (but not x64), the client.dll from https://csm.dev/threads/cs-1-5-client-dll-decrypted-patched-for-usage.38845/, and the /valve directory from a Half-Life.zip anon posted last year >>9478135, but the first person animation didn't work.
downloading a steam rip from rutracker right now to be ready for next time

Nevermind, this fixed that. And also reminded me to do this anyway so I can attach the targetname to that invisible bounding box.
