I'll never understand how the Saturn got both a Bug! and Bug Too! in it's lifespan... but no Sonic title besides spinoffs and ports, what a disgrace.

SEGA deserved to leave the market.

I loved them a lot, still do, and their consoles are my favorites, but they took bussiness decisions in the 90's that are just baffling and unforgiveable.

No, because at that point I've probably played it enough that I'm used to how it feels, my mind is geared towards this particular video game, if I'm moving onto something else then I'll have to get back from scratch whenever I pick it back up, and since I don't find the title to be very good, I don't want to pick it up again and have to learn it all to get good at it again, I want to play and move on.

A lot of the times I prefer to just put an infinite lives and/or continues code than use save states, since I have a high tolerance for BS, but when I'm not enjoying myself much and I'm sent back to its title screen every time, and I can tell that I'd have to put in way too many hours to even get to the end legit, I just use save states or a code, I know I cheated and didn't beat it, but it's not the point.

After I'm done I put it in my spreadcheet of video games I've finished, but with an "*" and details in the "Cheats" column, so if I ever go back to it, I'll know how I "beat" it and what to do differently.

I have a few titles that I "beat" this way that I plan to go back to, it's just that when I resort to cheating it's because I'm fed up and want to play something else already, not grind even more.

NTA but at times I feel like I'm the weird one for being the complete opposite of this, but way too excessive in my approach, about 90% of what I'm playing is from the same dozen or os IPs I already know and like, rarely leaving my comfort zone, it feels like I'm missing out, but at the same time I do try to play other things sometimes, but I don't stay engaged for more than a few minutes really.

I suppose I'm getting a bit tired of video games and my hobbies in general due to life taking a bit of a toll on me, so having it be comfortable and familiar gives me the push I need to persist in it.

Well, what usually helps me when I'm struggling to find something that sticks is to go for shorter titles that I know are about 30 minutes long... do I beat them in 30 minutes? No, of course... but if I know that I'm 30 minutes away, or less, from the final boss, from the hero's triumph, I get the feel that I should push through... you know, "just one more attempt" and all, so arcade ports are great.

This.
We either didn't beat it, or did after trying for a few months, making some progress here and there, and then we'd just replay it after that to beat it while playing even better. I still do that to be fair, but it's quicker since I'm all grown up and have more skill. Also, there are guides.

I don't think that would've worked out, anon... it'd make the Saturn harder to develop for, which was already a problem, and it'd probably be even more expensive than it already was...

How different would the 5th generation have been if SEGA made the Saturn's cartridge slot compatible with Genesis cartridges? I still feel PlayStation would've crushed it in sales in the west... but it would've done better than it did.

I (>>10218338) don't mind that, and as I've mentioned in another reply of mine (>>10218357) I feel it's important to specify which version you've played, since it really isn't the same... I just can't stand the "If you didn't play ___ in a certain way (A.K.A. How I play and think everyone should play) then you didn't REALLY beat it..." it just frustrates me, and I read it on here way too often.

While /vr/ likes to discuss as to why Sega failed, I feel like we fail to discuss what sega's failure meant for video games, losing one of the most first party reliant companies in the history of gaming.

Let me hear your opinions /vr/

I wouldn't say they're that popular overall but I think they left a huge impression on people that played them as kids. Shining in the Darkness was one of my first RPGs and Shining Force 1 was one of my favorite games growing up. I was just playing it earlier today and it's even better looking than I remember and is overflowing with charm and little details. Anyhow, they're pretty popular on /vr/.

What are the most informative retro game websites or YouTube channels? I lost my RSS feed a while ago and haven't bothered filling it up again.

Their both kinomachines imo, but I don't think you should have the Nomad as your first Megadrive over a Model 1 with the proper sound chip. So based on my bias and your circumstances, I'd recommend the NGPC for now.

Most people just care about playing the games, and not the physical trinkets. Why do you think even on consoles a lot of people are switching to digital only purchases?

I live in a pretty rural area and my usual to-gos are used shops, yard sales and such. I also browse Craiglist, Vinted and eBay quite often. There are no Gamestops in my area but they only have soccer games'n shit. Also there aren't many retro collectors here

Snes had some of my favorite games, but I prefer Genesis in general.
