The only way I can tell is when opened, there is a tray containing both rumble motors. Is there a more reliable indicators for identifying genuine ones?

The battery life on Dualshock 3 controllers are declining for the ones I have. It is decent for that Playstation feel, but I always remembered Sony never valued player input and they would naturally drop some inputs. However, unlike the 360 d-pad, where you decide on a diagonal up-left, it would input left, then up, then left until finally settling on the diagonal up-left in a short time span, so it was kind of amazing to me when I tried a dualshock 3 where up is actually up. I didn't realize how much I missed that of earlier controllers, and how they did not drop inputs. I still kind of prefer wired input devices, but it may just be a subjective thing that I feel less lag with them.

Bump for the method to get it working in GNU/Linux. Please be gentle, I originated from a DOS background, so I'm not too knowledgeable on how to work Linux, but I had to refuse to go onto Win10.

I think I read they made that the worldwide standard now.

I find it difficult to find genuine DualShock 3s probably because they arrived late and most people had Sixaxis instead. It is the same with the PS1, where there are very few dual analog controllers, but at least they made more DualShock controllers with the PSone.

There is the Victor Sega Saturn pads which are grey with the colored ABC buttons.

If that were the case, wouldn't my phone/camera be better?

I only have one in that color. It is the same one repeated in all my pics. It cost me around $19USD back in 2016, but since I like using these controllers, it was worth splurging for.
