It may be inappropriate for the times now. The games are supposedly still playable thanks to the efforts for those keeping it preserved for future generations to enjoy.

Aside from the child murder, I think instead of mentioning drugs like meth they changed it to "jet".

Pretty much. Wages has not kept up with the cost of living and inflation. The pandemic just exacerbated the situation. I'd love to enjoy the new games and technology, but I have to make due with what I got from back when. The worst part is that even the services to maintain those old devices have disappeared and in the rare instance a solution is available it is only for the ultra wealthy to afford.

The only reason I remember Soulbringer is because it came with Planescape: Torment in a bargain bin pack. Never installed it either.

Clearance bins were where I got almost all my stuff. Those red stickers with prices ending in 3 or 7 were rock bottom prices at Target, where I really got into some RTS with Yuri's Revenge or that Commander Pack for Total Annihilation. Grocery stores would have Planescape Torment bundled with Soul Bringer. Even convenience stores like 7-Eleven would have great cheap games like Puyo Puyo 2, Biohazard (RE), etc.

I "borrowed" so many games too from friends, family, and classmates. I experienced so many DOS games from just "borrowing".

They were good times, but I recently was in Best Buy with a mystery $5 coupon to get something from the clearance section, and the section is pathetically small and sparse with no games.

That's pretty sound logic. At $20 it sounds affordable, and probably worthwhile. In a couple of weeks, I might get one then.

SATA to IDE sounds best. I appreciate the warning about the CF/SD card, because I don't think the computer will see occasional use, but rather extensive use, since some games like Total Annihilation, Diablo, Quake 3, etc. would eat up a lot of playtime. Could probably find some less expensive drives that way to offset the cost of the adapters. I'll try to look into the tools/programs for limiting capacity but I don't mind being spoonfed the answers.

Impressive you can tell. Voodoo 5 cards go for a fortune (the 32-bit color and higher resolution), and the 5900 does have Win98 drivers. My monitors are widescreen CRT monitors capable of 1920x1200, so the extra horsepower may be needed to drive that many pixels. Also, as a bonus, the nVidia card has a S-video out, so maybe there are Win98 emulators for other systems that can output to my old TV.
