is Final Fantasy V any good?

A friend gave me a somewhat beat-up copy of Final Fantasy Anthology as a birthday present years ago, mostly because he wanted me to play FFVI. I played VI via PS2 to completion, but every time I play V it seems to freeze or glitch out, or I go in the wrong direction and die because I feel the game has a poor sense of direction.
