It was meant to be a sequel to Mario Bros, not SUPER Mario.
That was just a very early design document though, the idea of a vs mario bros 2 never passed the conceptual stages.

You are tasked with creating a modern "Championship Edition" version of the classic Mario Bros. How would you do it?

Aside from updating the visuals and such how would you turn the game into an online, semi-competitive yet true to the original's concept game for Nintendo's online EShop or even a retail title if you think it can reach that scope?
