So? He has several biological children with multiple women and has banged hundreds of broads. Who the fuck cares? Only obsessed faggots such as yourself.

Why would there be? The guy was never a hardcore cocaine addict, he didn't have to go to rehab or wnything, he just liked to party and he partied pretty hard. Like I said, this was somewhat common knowledge of those in the know back then, I assumed it still was honestly. I recall DaBug (Matt Hooper) and Zdim (Rich Carlson) and Steve Roscoe also being very hard partiers who could keep pace with John.

But you've got the King of Deathmatch co-signing the theory. Doesn't that make it official? And we do see a Triad symbol all over in Heretic..

Even Romero will tell you that isn't true.

I feel it ran a little deeper than Romero's lax work standards, which within reason would've been just fine. Romero hired a shitload of people practically in retaliation to the "too many cooks can spoil the broth" philosophy that Carmack brought to id. He also had a hard time coming up with a set direction for any idea he had (Quake was basically going to be a fast-paced Morrowind before Carmack talked him down, citing that the tech would work better as a third Doom, which Quake is at the end of the day).

His aspirations were also beyond the scope of modern tech, which was great when he had Carmack on his side since Carmack was obsessed with pushing technology to meet goals, but it was terrible with less innovative people. This is why Daikatana looked dated as hell and why the AI in general was retarded. He was asking for more than he could get, because Carmack or someone like Carmack wasn't there to invent it.

Then there was Romero's own gaming addiction cutting into his work, which is what got him kicked out of id in the first place.
Romero was all play and no work. Coding was another game, not a job. The reason Doom worked so well with Romero as level designer is that the game was so damned fun that even designing levels for Romero was essentially play. Once the game itself ensnared Romero's attention, his work/play ratio hit ridiculous lows and he worked less. He also tried juggling the life of the business mogul with the life of a family man at the same time, and learned the hard way why business moguls don't usually have families.

Finally Romero just didn't have the leadership skills necessary to run a large company; hell, his nature didn't even make room for the concept of leadership. Too much work, too little play.

TL;DR John Romero was a good guy with huge ideas who bit off way more than he could chew, and by the end of the road had little to no friends backing him up. But at least he got to bang the shit out of Stevie Case.

For those who are interested in the Romero goodies that were released on DoomWorld, here are some mirrors, as the originals are down.

I love it here. Almost everyone is civilized, everyone is talking about a topic they actually want to talk about, and the modstaff is really good at their job, quick and efficient.

There's no "HURR NOSTALGIAGOGGLES" because everyone is just talking about old videogames they liked, or looking for old videogames that were good.

So, any good source ports for Android phones? Doom Eltechs is kinda not what I'm looking for.
