I was under the impression that speedrunning arcade games was less about getting the best time and more about finishing the game on just one credit. What happened?

EarthBound has less story than MOTHER, but makes up for it with better gameplay and more surreal moments and music. Its soundtrack is more experimental, with samples being used a lot.

That being said, EarthBound starts speeding up around the end of Onett and reaches full speed after Threed and Winters. If you got to Threed before stopping, don't worry. It's meant to slow you down, and once you get to Fourside, the game goes full steam ahead.
