No, but there's nothing in it that directly contradicts canon. It's set during the action arc, after Asuka arrived, but before Touji becomes a pilot.

Can't blame you though, the girls in Eva are 10/10, but I'm also into it because of the giant robots/monsters.

Back then, yes. But now Eva is supposed to be very mainstream and popular worldwide as well, in the 90s Eva was still niche outside of Japan.
