>So is this a WAD?
Kinda. It has custom ambient tracks, tweaked lighting effects and some extra decorations, but I didn't used any advanced mapping stuff which GZDoom builder provides and kept map info in strict complevel-9 Boom format to allow maximum compatibility.
>How many levels?
Seven. Or eight if you will count the "final boss room". Or nine if you also will count the secret level.
>The beginning seems to lean heavily into the survival horror thing, with limited ammo, it's dark, etc, then by Map 03 I think ammo ceased to be a problem.
I tested every level in pistol start mode on UV without using goods in secrets to have a right balance. Since I'm not all that good the difficulty may get a bit off closer to the end. But yeah, I really tried to squeese the pickups like in survival horror games. This is why you usually find items only around dead marines, soldiers or in security/medical rooms.
>soon the twisting, narrow corridors gave way to some grid-like square rooms. I personally don't mind them, but I'm a sucker for early-style maps
I agree, this is still in the beta and late maps are rough sketches which lack some fine details.
>I did have fun, though the enemy variety is pretty limited. Of course, this means that when a hell knight does pop up he feels more threatening.
The idea was to keep things "in line" since fighting in the dark is a tad bit different from fighting things when you see them. Every level you get one "new" weapon and two "new" monsters to fight against, so when when game go full royale, you already be fully adapted to the new rules of combat.
>I had to run it in opengl es with hardware acceleration though, otherwise the framerate would suffer immensely
I have a 2GB VRAM on my machine and I can play it smooth in 960x540 resolution. GZDoom just sucks sometimes.
>Keep it up brother.
Thx. When you will reach the end, drop the screen so I can see how much extra ammo you had in the end so I will know how much I need to balance out.
