I got it, and felt very stupid when I finally realized the sources were in the auto_compile folder the entire time. By then I had already spent ages fixing up a few decompiled maps (I used WinBSPC).
At least, I made myself a prefab of the diagonal elevator at the start of Lambda Core, so it wasn't a complete waste of time

So I'm guessing you didn't actually play Goldeneye.

I still think it's kinda weird how the Arch variant of Retroarch doesn't let you download cores in-client, though at least you can just download core files from it's buildbot repo and redirect your core path to the folder you put them in. Harder to update, but you can get access to the cores that aren't included in the Arch repos.

lol just go back to /v/. You don't get input lag from real hardware with a proper CRT and you'd have to be a drooling retard to not be able to play with a 6th gen controller.

Retroarch itself isn't an emulator. It's a frontend for the Libretro API which runs emulator cores as DDL files. It's just an easy way to have pretty much every emulator you'd need in one space with shared configs across all of them. Like go ahead and use standalone emulators if you want, you aren't forced to use RA.

I remember a game I had on my PS1 where it was like a slow vertical scrolling shooter in 3D that I could never remember the name of. One of the player ships was this either blue or yellow cat-like creature with rounded rectangle eyes who had a UFO as a ship.

If you didn't know what op was talking about from the screenshot alone, you don't belong here.

I was under the impression Apple had very little to do with it and it was mostly Bandai's creation.
