I like how if you walk like eight feet to the right in that game you see actual transparencies in MMX4 (not to mention they're using an emulator so of course the mesh effect looks like shit, play it on an actual TV over composite cables and it looks lightyears better.

You need shaders. Pixels are infinitesimal point samples, not squares.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying an inauthentic experience. To each their own.

>Are CRT filters on emulators a meme?
Individual results may vary. I am sure there is a way to tweak things to get the output you prefer. I Have seen occasional screenshots where people have tweaked shaders to look like a CRT, and I don't think the average person would tell the difference from a photograph. Nothing can perfectly emulate real-deal CRT effects. Some people have never played games on a CRT that are posting here right now. It is something I have to remind myself of when interacting with some of the more obviously 18-20 year old hipsters. I try not to be rude because they really don't know, and some don't care to know.

Genesis games are designed for composite video. Please use enable appropriate filters/shaders if emulating.

You can do whatever you want. A regular cancer ray tube tv can be picked up gratis. 27 inch is a good size if you're not a big guy. Any larger and my mom couldn't move it.

I recommend composite video for the best 16-bit experience :-)

Also, not exactly related, but anime from before y2k looks better on a crt with a composite or s-video connection for similar reasons.
A region 2 dvd of any show will look better on a crt with said connections, than a remastered bluray of the same show would look on a 4k display. Stuff like evangelion and cowboy bebop look like they just came out, if viewed that way.
An exception to this rule is playing properly done blurays of things like ranma or maison ikkoku on a crt, but that is due to reasons that have nothing to do with this thread.

Also, I meant to post this picture.

For the real retro experience you have to play the old systems on RF.

Why do you actively go out of your way to make retro games look worse? Retro games were made with consumer sets in mind. If you want the games to look like pixelated garbage, why not just use an emulator?
