The irony is that Shamblers aren't all that tough at all. If you've got a super nailgun you can kill them in literally four seconds of fire at any range and they're easily baited into using their swipe attack instead of lightning.

Quake's lowest enemies are still weak- Grunts take two shotgun blasts or a single super shotgun blast to kill, and directly comparing shotguns isn't fair as Quake starts you with the SG, no pistol- yet stronger than their Doom counterparts, but Quake's toughest enemies are way easier to kill than Doom's and IMO the game flows much better because of it, with more focus on clever enemy placement and level design instead of giving the player a big arena to circle-strafe a boss in for ten minutes.

Alternate explanation: Doom players are way too spoiled by their Super Shotgun and how it makes piece meal of literally everything in the game and makes most of your other weapons secondary.
