I wrote in the other thread about how the evolution of PC's influenced 90's trends like bolder fonts, more colors, early 3d models and digital images and publishing software all combined to push for attitude and absurdism, I think it is the same thing with 00s edge, it is the result of new techcoming together at the same time like CD Rom and prerendered videos and voice acting, access to the internet, chat rooms, videogames becoming mainstream, developers wanting to be taken seriously, the market of grown up gamer kids, more realistic human models and faces in 6th gen games.
In every artistic movement and technology advance ever the pioneers always want to be as bold as they can to carve their own new niche. The woke pop culture we have today is also a form of boldness and a result of new tech and new social interactions and new forms of media consumption but it is becoming stagnant. AI could be the thing that empowers people to challenge it.
