It was kind of cool and janky when stuff came out before Star Fox came out. It was a gimmick and not very graphically impressive before that. Once Star Fox came out it was the first game that actually was good and felt like the gameplay was enhanced with the 3D graphics. Even then, we were excited because it looked like shit in today's eyes but knew it was only going to get better from there on, and it did. Better framerate, more polygons, better textures etc.

Early 3D games on computers, PS1 and Saturn especially were kind of novelties. Besides games like Quake, which was an evolution of the psuedo 3D Doom, the games were not very graphically impressive or impressive themselves. Very pixilated and the wobbly textures ruined the immersion. It wasn't until Super Mario 64 came out and the dithered, anti aliased and z-buffered graphics came out that we finally felt like the future 3D graphics were really here. Game was amazing, no doubt, but the graphics were finally at a good starting point. It was basic, but the fundamentals were all there. Clear lines, good textures that weren't a wobbly pixilated mess, and a smooth framerate.

Being a 40 year old oldfag, SM64 was the biggest wow moment in gaming for me.

Based.

Zelda LA is and was an amazing GameBoy game. We could not believe how good it was at the time. The world is uniqe and familar, but doesn't feel like a complete LttP ripoff. It's certainly not as well designed as LttP. The dungeons are a hit and mix. Some have some very frustrating areas, like the card suite enemies, but at the same time, the Turtle Rock dungeon is one of the best 2D dungeons of all, if not the best. It's long, mazy and hard and unique. Great last dungeon that makes you want to play the game to get there, but you're going to spend some time on it if you forget what to do, and even then it's still a challenge. Great dungeon.

My favorite part of the game are the 2D segments. Having the jump feather and the 2D segments add some unique freshness and dimension to the game that LttP didn't have, and if there was a 2D sequel to LttP, it would have to have these included.

Yup. For me it's playing SMB1 the first time, and finally getting to play it for a long time during a sleepover with a friend who had an NES. Glorious. I think we only made it to world 5 without warping.

Also getting SMW Christmas 1991. It was amazing. The game was so colorful, the music was amazing, the controller was comfortable, the world map expanding was full of exploration and opportunity. That night I made it to Donut Plains 1 and got the cape, and the sunset sky background stuck with me.

Then there was Doom in 1993. Finally getting to play it on a fast computer, with a nice 17" monitor and a sound card.

Then there was SM64. Playing it the first time at the Kiosks they had setup at Toys R Us the summer of 1996 before it came out. Me and my bro rode our bikes 4 miles everyday to go play it. 3D finally felt real, and like real life. Mario and the controller instantly melded into my hands, and the connection to my brain was unlike anything else when it came to control. Felt like virtual reality with the familiarity of my old friend Mario, but a new adventure.

I'm rambling now, but those are definitely the amazing moments of gaming for me. The PS2 and MGS2 and GT3 are up there. SSBM, Metroid Prime... WoW... Hell even COD4 MW on PS3. Nothing really since.

Because he is not a fraud.

>he always had the top records
>anytime someone would beat him, he always had a tape of a score that slightly beat it
>the compiled tapes were just a decoy for publicity
>he is playing the long game, and biding time for a comeback
