I like Strife a lot, but I find that most people aren't interested in talking about it all that much. Also I've been venturing less outside of /doom/ this year, so I probably just didn't notice.

If you want to, I'd love to talk about it. For instance, the world of Strife, or, at least the region you're in, seems to be about at a Medieval Europe level, and then with a bunch of added futuristic technology brought on by The Entity and The Order. Then, however, you find a lot of Toltec/Aztec imagery in some parts, old temples and catacombs, and I really wonder what the connection is there.
Was this society once upon a time a lot like the old Mesoamerican ones, but then somehow shifted to an architectural style and aesthetic style more like what you'd find in Europe? Or were these ruins from a long gone indigenous people who lived there, before the current people got there and started building castles? Or outright, did they show and kill the indigenous people, and the following comet impact and Order shenanigans was some sort of ridiculous ironic fate?

I think the world of Strife is really fascinating with just its vague implications, and it'd be really cool if the game actually saw some sales and got a sequel, where things like these could have been expanded upon.

>The woman on comms says to do things stealthily,
You really don't have to, unless you're maybe trying to kill someone in town or something. You can brute force your way through most things in the game.

>but that means only knife use
>even though the crossbow is pretty silent
The crossbow is not silent unless you're using poison bolts, poison bolts are instakill on acolytes and peasants, and worthless against robots.

>The second you shoot something the alarms go off, yet you can murder someone with melee with little to no consequences.
Yeah, the stealth mechanics are very halfbaked.

>The knife does such measly damage that you're almost forced to take damage from enemies and your medkits seem to be on auto use so they're easily drained.
The punchdagger gets better with the game as you get more stamina implants (health), it's like a slow buildup for a permanent berserk pack.

>And finally, the game seems to forced you out of a stealth state instantly when you cross thresholds within the environment, yet, from what I've observed, there is no way to turn off alarms or diminish area hostility.
Yeah, that's just the way it is. As said, the stealth is half baked, remember to make some saves here and there, and avoid making trouble in town.

Try out Weapons Of Rebellion sometime, it improves the weapons somewhat, and also consolidates the arsenal a bit.
https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=32780

Like instead of a separate grenade launcher (which is actually two separate weapons), it's instead a launcher you attach to the assault rifle.
The Mauler's "BFG" attack is now just a secondary attack on the regular Mauler.
Instead of having the crossbow be two weapons in one slot, one for shock bolts, one for poison bolts, you instead just select them with the one crossbow as a weapon. It also gets the ability to fire a multi salvo of shock bolts, meaning the shock bolts don't become horribly obsolete as soon as you get the assault rifle.

There's some stuff like that. I think it really helps make the combat smoother and more enjoyable. There's also a couple of other small things here and there, such as how robotic enemies can drop scrap electronics which you can sell for a little bit of money.
Strife is a really cool game that I admire, but I think it's also pretty flawed and rough around some of the edges, and I feel this mod makes it much more enjoyable.

Strife has some pretty good moments.
Drags in a few places, and isn't as long as I'd like, but overall a game worth playing.

Violent revolutions get ugly.

You mean the guys who pick you up for the crime of basically being a traveler, then after exclaiming "We are going to kill you!", try to do as such? Yeah, they have won my sympathy.

>Might end up with things like medieval broadswords being placed next to sci-fi phasers.
