The problem isn't Turok 3. The problem is that Turok 1/2/Evolution are kinda piss-poor adaptations of Acclaim's version of the Turok universe. Turok 3 is sort of like Shadow Man in that it's a distilled version of the work of the Acclaim comics team.

Acclaim's approach was to take the comics they owned, and have their own comics writers create new characters and lore for them, and then have their work adapted by the videogame teams. So the comics team came up with Michael LeRoi and Jaunty and Legion and stuff like that for Shadow Man. They came up with Adon and Joshua and Danielle and Joseph and the Primagen and Oblivion and The Light Burden and the Council of Voices and pretty much every defining aspect of the Turok universe. But due to rushed development, very little of this material made it into Turok 1 and 2. Turok 3 was the first game in the series to really capture what the comics were about.

Think about it. If you played Turok 2, you would never know that Joshua Fireseed was an American college student who moonlights as an interdimensional superhero. But that's his origin. That's why he's living on a reservation with his brother and sister in Turok 3. That backstory is an adapted version of some of the books and comics.
