I always figured this thing with Ash scrolling endlessly in the intro was an emulator bug, but TCRF claims it's anti-piracy.

It could be a baseless claim though, and just a side effect of a poorly programmed game that doesn't play properly in an inaccurate emulator, since it doesn't cite any particular code or program responsible or provide evidence of it manifesting on unmodified SNES hardware.
