/vr/ - Retro Games

Its truly a masterpiece of western crpg fame. Quite deep in terms of gameplay and quite the challenge.

With all these new "cRPG Renaissance" games coming out I noticed how bland and uninspiring the genre has become (why do they all have to be "isometric" 3d party rpgs? Why can't they invent something new? Also, what the hell is this - https://www.pcgamesn.com/15-best-rpgs-pc ?), so let's discuss older titles, anything goes; blobbers, dungeon crawlers, diablo clones, adventure/rpg hybrids, immersive sims... Just keep it western and retro.

For me it's Darklands, because it's a historical RPG, something we don't get often, it has a high replay value and a great soundtrack.

Darklands. but it's not very much like anything else.

You might want to get spoiled on character creation and look at the items descriptions of a faq. Some items are very expensive but useless. Some are cheap and easily overlooked. The starting party isn't super great, so making your own can by much easier. There was a lot of this in the manual so it's not unfair.

Also you'll need the map and city index to get around, which was also included in the game and easily available online.

What's /vr/'s personal favorite CRPG or any RPG before 1999
