so your argument is that nintendo invented a plus-shaped d-pad?, does that actually make a difference? i don't recall ever thinking "man, i wish my master system dpad was plus shaped like the nes, that'd make it much better", if anything, this square shape made it easier to press diagonals

SEGA were also inspired by Nintendo. The Master System joypad is a straight copy of Nintendo's.

And the Megadrive was before the SNES but still sticks to Nintendo's design of having the directional controls on the left, buttons on the right.

that fatty d-pad wasn't my fav. But it was still an improvement over this.

I have to use a Genesis controller just to play games properly since the SMS one is so unresponsive.
