Why do people still like the original boxy design of the NES? From a technical standpoint, it was a poorly designed mess that bent the connectors of both the cartridge and the console, had a shitty lock-out chip, and took up too much space compared to its contemporaries.
The only reason they designed the NES like that was so that it looked like a budget VCR instead of a game console, which at the time was considered a dying industry. It's baffling that Nintendo didn't redesign the console until near the end of the system's lifespan, even though it wouldn't have affected sales changing up the design around 1989 or so.
