I have a lot of good memories playing with friends, and then a lot of good memories meeting a few people online in this game and Gears of War and we played all through the 360 era together.

Then Microsoft ruined everything, vidya went to shit, and we all drifted apart.

I hate growing old.

You don't need to own a CRT just to enjoy playing retro games. You could be emulating old games on your phone or PC or MiSTer or Android/x86 handheld or you could be playing with real hardware, as long as you're having fun that's what matters most.
With that said, I feel like some games play better, or at least they dont feel as laggy on a CRT like they do on higher res LCD panels. Plus some consoles like the PS2 generally look like shit no matter what upscaler or cables you shell out for. PS2 component cables + a Retrotink 5X at full 1080p/1440p makes it "presentable looking" I guess, but it isnt a huge upgrade in my eyes to just plugging in the included composite cables and just gaming on a dinky 13" CRT.

Upscalers are good to have if theres no good/cheap/free CRTs in your area, and they are much better than just plugging it into your TV in terms of image quality and performance, but they aren't going to magically turn your existing games into HD Remasters. if thats what you want then just emulate or buy the HD ports/PC versions if the option is available and they're of good quality.

Finally, you don't need to overspend on a Retrotink 5X or an OSSC just to have a good experience. Just grab a GBS Control, or a Retrotink 2X Mini.
