I think games that used toys for their box art sold just fine.

This. I have it emu'ed on my phone and it never bores me

And it's prequel Alien Crush. And Devilish for the Game Gear which has similar aesthetics but with Arkanoid instead of pinball.

I already mentioned this in another thread but Faxanadu has a strong gothic theme which is what makes it my favorite NES RPG.

Can I also nominate Faxanadu?

Not sure if it's a mainstream classic but I still love because it's a JRPG with a dark-fantasy gothic theme instead of the usual cookie-cutter 80s anime theme of JRPGs of that time. Specially loved the "game over" /password-entry song.

Kinda reminds me of Labyrinth or Return to Oz.

I loved everything about this one especially the soundtrack and the gothic look and feel of the game. The ending was a kind of a let down though

Fun fact: Faxanadu was a spin-off of this one (or vice-versa):>>1855363
