No shit you're missing something. They're only just barely TECHNICALLY playable with an AI party. And by that I mean not at all.

The games really stress CO OP in a way that Left 4 wishes it could. "Drrr shoot the monster on your buddy" Trust me when I tell you it's a hugely different experience with real players. Get a good team and it's amazing.
