Anon I'm going to assume you're not LARPing on this Viking Axe-Throwing Board but if you opened a package not addressed to you you have committed a crime that can land you in prison for up to two years in the UK or five years federal in the US on top of a colossal fine. If you are in the US you are in serious shit right now and this thread could be pulled up in court. Don't bother trying to destroy the package or "lose" it or you get evidence tampering on top of it.

Crimes involving the postal system are tax-evasion levels of "Do not fuck with this" in many countries, especially in the US. Seal the box back up, return to sender, or find if the person is local and deliver it personally with an apology or contact them and ask them to come pick it up.

The post office delivered it to your address making it their problem, not yours, but you are on seriously thin fucking ice. Opening a mundane letter can be overlooked if it was a sincere accident but this wont be as easy.
