It's not the plot device of GF's affecting memories. That part is cool, and the idea that it is telegraphed through early in game dialogue that you can stumble across is also cool. The problem is that it was implemented like shit for a lame twist that meant nothing and felt fan fiction tier. It advances nothing, reveals nothing, and provides no payoff.

The Cloud stuff added texture and depth to his character. Everyone being raised in an orphanage together comes across like a wet fart.

ANYWAY, the best part of FFVIII is actually the Rinoa is a sorceress theory. It would have made the entire game and all its shitty shortcomings somehow worth it. Of course, it's the one time Square has decided to explicitly say a fan theory isn't true, sapping the only cult status energy this game ever had going for it. So the game is worthless.
