I feel you, buddy. If a mod has a fuckload of binds it better have a good fucking reason for them, and I've only seen one mod that makes it worthwhile: Hideous Destructor.
Now you go enjoy Project MSX and make sure to charge punch a group of dudes for us.

>without fullscreen, no always running option and shitty vertical mouse movement.
Fullscreen is easily applied in options, you turkeyknob. There are however solutions to the other ones, if you wanna do it absolutely Old Style.

>>8267840
>Capslock enables always running.
Not in the original .exe, this is was added in sourceports and later official ports.
You can however trick the .exe into doing autorun for you by futzing with your .cfg and making it think you're holding down run when you're not.

>Doom has no vertical aiming, I dunno if you're speaking of DOSbox's general mouse support or what. What is this diarrhea you posted?
He means the 'mousewalking' which vanilla Doom has, ergo you push mouse back and forth to move back and forth. This functionality made sense in Wolfenstein 3D, where there is no difference anywhere in terrain, and no inertia to your movement, so you always stop on a dime and move at full speed without having to accelerate, hence allowing for some VERY slick and fast maneuvers once you get used to it.

In Doom, terrain varies wildly (sometimes changing on the spot), and there's actually inertia to your movement, having to actually accelerate to full speed, and having to actually decelerate to stop. As a result, this kind of control input makes the game handle very clumsily, making it easy to fall down into pits, get stuck on shit, as well as minute back or forth movement while turning interfering with your aim (horizontal turning). Some guys probably grew to like this, but the vast majority of people didn't, considering how it's always off by default in ports and is so seldom used by anyone that it's almost forgotten.
To disable this functionality in the original .exe, you actually had to use a hack such as novert. Again, being able to just not use this feature is something which has been added in later sourceports and official ports.

tl;dr DOSBox isn't necessarily the best way to have the true 1993 experience.

Savegames are a point of contention on tougher maps that reppears from time to time.Generally speaking clearing the map in one go is a common practice in the original Doom 1 +2 IWADs. But even if you die late in, you'll likely know where to go anyway. You may find yourself using less savegames as you get better though. Some community maps especially are much more lengthier and challenging which is where the debate comes up especially, but saving as a map starts to retain your gear is generally typical and a source port like GZDoom does that automatically.

Doom 'purists' would be using a source port like Chocolate Doom which plays out identically to the original release's limitations, and savegames are technically an original part of the game.

Until a few months ago OBLIGE used to generate pretty crappy maps primarily composed of mostly box-like areas with a lot of enemies. These days with 7.50 they're much more labyrinth-like, but will still get repetitive after a bit, your brain will pick up on it.

I do kind of miss the Wolfenstein and Psychedelic themes though, as with Glaice's extras.

I wouldn't be asking if I hadn't already tried that. Really, JPCP + DRadys is really, really tough. I'm playing it right now with DoP and I'm running low on ammo pretty often. I also tried standard Hell on Earth, but that was really tough as well.
