Did you know: The N64 did NOT use standard 4 point bilinear filtering, but instead used a compromise known as 3 point bilinear filtering.

This texture mapping technique only began to appear in the options of some emulators by the mid 2010s, and still has yet to be implemented in official Nintendo emulators.

Here's a good blog post about this: http://filthypants.blogspot.com/2014/12/n64-3-point-texture-filtering-in.html?m=1, notice how the N64 rendered this stairstep texture smoothly, while older emulators often used jagged edges due to relying on modern bilinear filtering.

This error is also apparent on the NSO N64 expansion.
