It might look cool at first but sooner or later you get these dreaded ion burns as the beam gets very bright and concentrated.
However, this fade out phase isn't that long and stops early, so it might take a minimum of 10000 cycles to cause that.
In beginning of the movie Back to the Future part 3 you see Doc Brown turning of his TV and look how long that phase is. I'm sure it cost a lot get one of these without ion burns.
