This is more of a general analog video question, but maybe someone here can answer it:

When it comes to old analog tapes like VHS/Betamax/Video8/Hi8 what is the best possible output signal? I know you can get SuperVHS players with S-video and most high-end Sony cameras also had S-video output, but what about RGB/Component?

If I managed to hunt down some sort of tape player with component out, would it look any better than S-video? Basically what I'm wondering is if component output benefits all signals, or if the tape itself needs to be recorded with the "component signal data"? Game consoles render their output so I'm assuming they work differently...
