Not in Metroid, but password searching lead to one of the most freaky gaming moments of my life.

>playing Ecco the Dolphin
>stuck on the Asterite fight for like a week
>notice the level passwords have repeating letter patterns and try to guess a password to a later level
>try over and over, get working passwords for earlier levels but none for later levels
>upstairs my brother is blasting Pink Floyd music this whole time which is starting to grate on my nerves
>out of frustration just mash NNNNNNNN
>screen turns black
>David Gilmore cries out "welcome my son"
>exactly in time he says "Welcome to the machine"
>my dolphin who had previously been swimming in cool oceans and coral reefs is suddenly in a crazy space ship thing instantly killed by Geiger aliens

I thought I was losing my mind

I agree, it's a more fun fight than the Asterite actually but The Machine sucks so much it makes it a chore. Asterite actually lead to one of my most eerie gaming moments back in the day. I was totally stuck on him and had started trying to find a code to a later level after noticing there were certain letter patterns thar repeated. I got all sorts of working codes, but none to a level after the Asterite. At the same time my brother was in his room next to mine blaring Pink Floyd at high volume. So out of frustration both from not getting a working code and the noise I mashed NNNNNNNN which happens to bring you to the last level.

At literally the exact moment the screen turned black and pic related came up, Rodgers Waters sings "welcome my son, welcome to the machine" and then I'm in a spaceship and killed by Geiger aliens.

Only played the first game, this stage was brutal.
It's just random shit flying at you from every part of the screen, and if you don't beat the final boss on your first try, have fun going back to the previous stage.
Took me several days to beat that stage

>I highly doubt the Venezuela situation will escalate to the same level as Iraq/Afghanistan/Syria, and you are seriously misinformed if you're that sure it will.

I never said it would nor does it have to in order for it to be a complete shit show.

If you don't understand the gravity of the environmental situation and how Trump is actively trying to make it worse by claiming it's alla hoax, well all I can say is you're going to get what you deserve. and you know it deep down, that's the thing. That's why every post of yours with those silly """""""quotation"""""" marks drips with fear and hatred lol

Yeah that thing is genuinely tricky, and it's not super clear what you need to do. Now I can clear it in no time, but I got stuck on it enough when I was first playing that I resorted to trying to cobble together a code for a later level.

The encounter was much scarier for me because it comes so out of nowhere. This bit always felt sort of pandering and trying to recapture the first game's best moments.

Pic related, though some dispute that it's not a horror game.

I'm one of the many people who comes here just because I like old games, not because I'm a fetishist for antique electronics.

I like Castlevania. The game. Not the 20 year old box it was originally programmed for. Not the ugly CRT it was played on back then. I like the game itself. That's the part I care about. And now that I can play that game on a nice monitor without having to bother with all the bullshit it used to require I enjoy it even more.

I know that makes me seem like a crazy person around these parts, actually liking the games themselves instead of the nostalgic trappings that go along with them. But I am what I am.

I didn't even think of that angle, this is /vr, there are a lot of oldfags around. Just thought it was a funny story. I'll retell another great Ecco one though,

Back playing it for the first time I was super stuck on the Asterite. To the point that I'd resorted to trying to figure out a code for a later level, having noticed a lot of them had similar patterns of letters.

I got a bunch that worked, but all for earlier levels and was getting frustrated. It also didn't help that my brother was in the next room blaring Pink Floyd music which was really starting to grate on my nerves if only because it was so loud.

In frustration I just mashed NNNNNNNN into the level code. The screen turned black and at the exact moment that the words for the final level appeared, the only line of a pretty long instrumental song rang out,

>Welcome my son, welcome to the machine

And boom I was suddenly in that freaky fucking space ship being eaten by aliens. It was one of the freakiest video game experiences ever.

What is the single most rage inducing level in any /vr/ you've played?

Pic related.

Ecco the Dolphin has left a deep scar in my childhood with auto-scrolling.
>Be 12, finally, finally, finally get to final levels (Ecco was hard as fuck, especially as a kid).
>Level: 'Welcome to the machine.'
>Spent 3 hours trying to clear it, frustration reaching peak levels.
>Manage to clear it.
>Final Boss.
>Get defeated.
>Pic related screen pops up. Again. Normally in Ecco, you always start in the same level you die.
>Stare blankly at screen for 10 minutes, not believing how mean this game is.
>Still traumatized by it.
