Where do guys fall on the Starcraft vs AoE2 debate? I had friends on both sides that swore one was better than the other. Haven't pkayed either myself to have an opinion though I prefer the setting and aesthetic of AoE2. Which is easier for newcomers?

Ripped a iso of my old aoe 2 cd. Able to play with the iso mounted, but the fucking music does not play. Anyway to get redbook audio to play from mounted iso's?

Revisiting this game after a long break. I'm up to Joan of Arc level 3, where I'm supposed to scare away the British by destroying one of their castles. I apparently need to build my own castle and create some siege rams, but I can't remember how to do either. Are villagers supposed to be able to build castles?

As a long time Brood Wars fan I'm just now dipping my toe into Age of Empires 2, let's have a thread about it.

Never played any 'Age of' game, which is the best?

How the fuck do I get good at this? I grew up with consoles so I never played this or other RTSes growing up, but when my friends from college come through they always want to play this or Civ2. I've been able to get decent-ish at Civ2 (my asshole is still wide-open for anyone who does an early game rush), but I'm just helpless in AoEII.

I know it's hard to tell me what I'm doing wrong when you can't see how I play the game but what are some general strategies to use so that I'm not halfway to the castle age when all of a sudden I'm getting my shit pushed in by my friends who have amassed huge Tier IV armies?

For reference, I was able to beat the computer 1v1 on Easiest no sweat. Didn't lose a single unit, was able to rush their base with six scout cavalries and clear out their villagers before they could make much of a defense.

On Normal, the computer flooded me with Scorpions as I was halfway through researching the castle age. I try to have about 15 villagers per age. Should I have more than that?

Me trying shit out in one of the late tutorial stages, however I was four years old and I couldn't understand any english. After much trial and error I learned the basic functions.

My favourite Civs are the teutons and the spanish. However in team games I usually play with the Spanish for they have a teambonus 33,3% more profit when trading, which gives you a serious advantage. I also think that in late game sessions the spanish have an advantage. The combination of fully upgrades conquistadors and fully upgrades paladins are an unstoppable force. The teutonic knight is a fucking tank (insane pierce armour), really good if you put them in rams. Then they are effective against archer civs like the brittons.

Have you experienced online play via Gameranger/Voobly/LAN?
Yes, I played a lot with Voobly. However LAN matches were fucking awesome. In high school we brought a cracked version of AOE2 on USB and install it on all the computers. Then we would play 4 vs 4 matches. Those matches were so sick that if there was a huge siege the game would lag badly. Best matches I have ever played.
>Your favorite mission/the one you hate the most?
My favorite mission is the first mission of the Barbarosa campaign. Maybe if I play al the missions again my opinion would change, but I have a lot of memories from my childhood of that mission.

I bought it primarily for the new servers to play with my friends online. The graphics aren't that improved, but you can easily install mods now. Another dissapointment is that they have removed the fucking LAN option, WTF.

What am I in for? Is the campaign lengthy? Do any missions stand out as being memorable/hard as balls?
