/vr/ - Retro Games

I made this earlier on /v/, but what was your experience like playing the NES version of Gauntlet?
I have been trying to get into but can't, because the game wigs out too much for me to be able to tell what's going on, especially since the game is cryptic to begin with. I have to keep pausing the game every 10 seconds to fix the sprites and walls, so I can somewhat see what I am doing. Is there a better way, or do you guys that play it just deal with it?

This cover defined what "wizards and warriors" fantasy looked like in my mind, and I wish I could find the art in a higher resolution or a picture of the original painting. So cheesy, so cliche, but so good.
