I'm amazed at the quality of pristine VHS tapes when played through a high-quality deck. (S-VHS output from my JVC 7800 is especially good at playing back animated content)

my first run 1988 copy of Highlander on VHS looks better than any DVD version of it I've ever seen (no compression artifacts or macro blocking, and no color banding)

I mean it's amazing.
