They have soul and actual work and love put into them beyond being just a shelled out product by a company, back when developers had say in what went into the game rather than publishers.
Nintendo games were better because they didn't yet realize the value of scarcity and the success of routine, and each new installment to their games was either a straight upgrade or a perfectly fine new way to play differently from the previous [SMB3 -> SMW -> SM64, ALTTP -> OOT, etc.]
Western developed games were better because not just anyone could make a game like you can today with the lowest common denominator. Today everything produced is either quirky indie RPGs about depression or bloated AAA games about diversity and some social justice message and no gameplay or terrible gameplay at best (Don't believe me? Go sit through all of this year's E3 and just TRY to prove me wrong.)
Back then only the nerds could pick up a computer and start programming, and working together to make something if they were fortunate enough to have a team. This lead to games for nerds by nerds, in all their intricacies and caterings to fantasy and sci-fi, be it arcadey or an immersive escape from reality.

Fuck zoomers and braindead consumers who tout the "nostalgia goggles" line, games were objectively better then than they are now. There was actual competition for quality and with each new technological breakthrough (8 to 16 bit processors, mode 7, 64-bit, skeleton based animation, cartridge to disc, 4 to 8 mb memory etc.) each game took full use of it to the limit likd a brave new frontier, and every instance of this ran wild with imagination having wanted said new capabilities for generations, blowing their load at the first chance and then the high riding down as time went on after that (See OOT/MM versus subsequent Zelda releases).
Zoomers woudln't get it, most of them have aphantasia anyway.
