Ghost Babel is really good too and is pretty heavily inspired by this game. I think it was basically Kojima trying to get this game into more hands while telling a different and neat story with it. Although I think MGS borrows a lot from Solid Snake too. Specifically the long stairway thing and then the rappelling off the building thing.
