Full 3D would turn it into a quasi-milsim, but that also means more work since all the abstracted things in Doom need to be made visible.
Source would solve a lot of my problems but HL isn't source, and Xash feels like cheating, I also have no idea about engine development at all so it's not like I can make big changes to it, at least not yet.
Destructible doors can be done in goldsrc, OpFor ropes could be ladders (OpFor never had an SDK so I need to check the decompile on github).
Most of my problems lie in shit like limited tracing (making bullets difficult), translation of viewmodel movement into shot direction (HL has neither proper vmodel movement nor a way to read the position of a model bone in 3d space) and client/server BS and prediction (literal aneurysm).
And laziness.
