I'm gonna recommend Uukrul every time one of these threads comes up. Great goddamn game.

Also it's slightly outside of /vr/ range but Wizardry 8 is incredible. Hell, the whole series is.

A totally underrated dungeon crawler that never got the success it deserved.

Seconding this. Uukrul is a fantastic dungeon crawler.

Dark Heart of Uukrul is the shit. Legit one of the best dungeon crawlers ever made, but sadly it was never as well remembered as its contemporaries.

Dark Heart of Uukrul. It's DOS but really good.

Just wanna say thanks to the person who recommended this in the recent grid based RPG thread. I'm a couple hours in now and having a blast. The fact that this game remains almost completely unknown is a real tragedy. It's astonishingly great.

Yes.
Try this. There's not much party customization and the combat is slow as all fuck, but it's got pretty much the best dungeon design among grid-based crawlers.

Or do you want a Japanese one specifically?
