I dunno what it is about this game, but I always find myself coming back to it. I'm not sure whether I like the sequel more, though. It has more complex level design and more levels in general but movement feels slower to me.

This sounds pretty cool, OP. I've been interested in getting Umihara Kawase (海腹川背) for SFC for awhile, but it's always very expensive online. I'm curious if it is as expensive in Japan or if it is just the western prices that are so high.

Do Re Mi felt too easy, but it was very cute.

The PSP port of Shun is buggy and some levels are impossible to complete because of the messed up physics engine. This video describes Umihara Kawase Portable well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA2BWvqaMYg
Play either the original versions of the SFC/PSX games or the DS port which contains them both. That version has remixed music for the SFC game and unlockable artwork/music by completing achievements in Shun (complete field 0 in 15 seconds, for example).

The sequel is great too but I liked this one more.

I thought Umihara Kawase was hard to get the hang of. It's a lot of fun. There's also a PS1 sequel, but I haven't played as much of that as I should have.

Going to try it out eventually. Love how the box-art says so little about the game.

Help! I cannot for the life of me finish games that I start. Tell me if something is wrong with me, or if these games have just aged poorly... I'll give my reasons for why I couldn't finish these games so please tell me whether I was reasonable in leaving these games unfinished.

1) Ultima 7: I've started this game from scratch at least 8 times. I simply cannot get into it. First of all, I refuse to use Exult because it doesn't emulate NPC schedules correctly. I always lose interest once I get to Britain. There is nothing at all to entice me to play further. Combat: Crude. Story: Average by today's standards. Controls: atrocious. World interactivity: irrelevant to me.

Arcanum: I always lose interest once I get to the first big city (the one with a sewer system). The combat is very rudimentary and uninspired. The story seems okay, but the other aspects of the game drown it in their mediocrity. I really don't like how there are different sizes of clothing and armor; they should have at least allowed armorers and tailors to be able to resize them, like in EverQuest. Also, the "racism" in the game gets really old really fast. I hate having to begin almost every conversation with 3 branches of dialogue consisting of apologizing if I chose to play certain races. The game just tries TOO HARD but fails.

What do you think of this series? I've been playing it and the PS sequel and they are both very good. I like how there are different ways to approach the levels and if you are good, there are much shorter paths to take. The music does the job and there are a few memorable ones from the SFC game, but I don't think the PS version's OST is anything out of the ordinary. As far as graphics go, I think that the original's graphics are charming and that while the sequel's took a little bit for me to get used to, it looks very pretty.
There is a lot of complexity for such an apparently simple game and I still haven't learned all the peculiarities of the fishing line physics. A bonus is that the games are quite difficult imo.
