Does Sanitarium count

Yes. A lot of old Horror games really do benefit from having far lower resolution art, which for some reason, just works really well in making a creepy atmosphere. I honestly do believe that at least when it comes to immersion in terms of horror, there is a balance that has to be struck between imagination and representation. It's why Junji Ito is so creepy despite literally being drawings, or why horror is so much creepier when you don't actually see the antagonist.

While it's true that 640x480 would have been too much for 3D platformers, I assume they probably didn't worry much about it because most late 90s PC games were CRPGs, adventures, or simulations that had strictly 2D graphics and relatively minimal animation.

For example, here's Sanitarium. The game doesn't do much except have 1-2 characters moving around so despite the 640x480 resolution, it's putting only a very light load on the PC. Whereas a game like Mario Kart has a lot of stuff moving around on top of having to render/perform 3D calculations.

Sanitarium is a pretty good point'n'click psychological horror. It is divided into few VERY different locations where you encounter various weird NPCs and puzzles. Protagonist is cool as well. Ah, and it has voice acting - not a bad one at that.

"I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream". I really like this one. Characters you control are diverse and usually interesting. Story is engrossing.

I glanced at this. No idea what was going on in the video but I found it boring after awhile. Also music in it (if you can call it that) is just awful.

This game shares something with Dark Seed - art being the best thing (or the only good one).

I'm sucker for point'n'click horror games. Any recommendations?

Has /vr/ played Sanitarium?
It's one of my all time favorites, and I don't usually like horror or adventure games.
