To me it kinda looks like the clay figures from Mother 1 and Mother 2.

What's the matter? They look like the clay figures from Mother 1 and 2.

Got Ninten, Ana and Lloyd back in 2011 for about $30 each. Teddy was like $17 so I thought I'd buy him later, since it seemed demand for him wasn't too hight.
I was wrong and now Teddy is now one of the hardest ones to find, and the asking price is over $70, oh well.

Each entry can be played as a stand-alone game, but there are plot elements that transfer from one game to the other (mainly the villains), and some references here and there.
Since it's only 3 games, I highly recommend playing all 3, and playing them in order

Mother.
Often downplayed and underrated by EarthBound fans, claiming it's just an 8-bit version of EB, sadly a lot of people skip it because of that and are missing on one of the best 8-bit RPGs.
The combat is pretty basic, but the game design is very interesting and, in difference to Earthbound, Mother is less linear, and traveling from one town to another actually feels like a journey instead of just a few steps inside of a cave that connects one map with the other, Mother is actually just one big ass map, probably one of the biggest maps in JRPGs.
The plot is also more interesting and layered than Earthbound's.
Earthbound is more vague with its storytelling, and centers more on particular sub-plots, that loosely converge in the alien invasion theme, but in Mother everything feels like it has a purpose. The whole story of Maria, George and Gyiyg is fantastic.
I'm not trashing EB though, it's also a good game, but I find it unfair that many people pretend EB is a remake of Mother 1 that renders the first game obsolete. That's absolutely false.

Enemy encounter rate is normal for Famicom RPGs.
The balance can be weird but that's also because the game is fairly open and non-linear. Some enemies are incredibly annoying though (Mad Truck, he kills me 90% of the time). But the game still gives you enough resources to overcome most bullshit. And on the GBA port, you get the EVE chip, which when used along with the Onyx Hook, makes Mt. Itoi a lot less stressful.
But if you want the ultimate challenge, just out of pure masochism, play the original Famicom version. Tougher dungeon designs, more dead ends, more labyrinthic

I don't have any but I really want these Mother figures.
I regret not having bought Teddy years ago when he was one of the cheapest, now he's one of the most expensive ones.

>mother 2 with actual clay models
now THIS is some fan hack I care about. Does it exist or it's just a mockup image?

Itoi isn't just about humor.
Anyway, I think Mother 1 has less humor than Mother 2. Form the get go, the prologue of the game is way more serious than Mother 2's "woops I'm dead! lol no wait I'm not dead yet" gag from Buzz Buzz.

The Mother figures from Banpresto are excellent. I don't get why it's UFO catcher-only though, should get a regular retail release.

Play them in order if you want to have the complete experience. Mother 1 is good but likely most people will tell you it's "dated" or "grindy" because very few people still like 8 bit RPGs.

The official "Earth Bound Zero" ROM that you can find online is the exact same as EB Beginning on the virtual console, so whether you want to give Nintendo your money for it or not is up to you.
The GBA version has a translation patch made by Tomato (guy who did Mother 3 fan translation) and has the easy ring item that makes encounter rates and grinding less time consuming, I personally don't think it's really necessary but again, up to you.
